Hans stora resa mot toppen började i 20-årsåldern då han utbildade sig till möbelsnickare, för att tre år senare börja sina studier vid Kunsthåndværkerskolen i Köpenhamn. He was also lecturer and professor in the furniture and interior design department at the Academy of Art from 1957-76.
